The Z is a car that needs no introduction. Well-known in the automotive community, the model has built a solid reputation over the years. It stands out from the competition with its style, performance, and a host of features that make it unique. In short, those who are part of the Z fan club desire it with uncommon fervor, and this is why the car has always been so popular in its niche.
The big news this year is the addition of a Nismo version to the Z lineup. This version is slightly more powerful and offers sharper performance. The manufacturer has decided to offer it only with an automatic transmission. Sure, brand enthusiasts were shocked to learn this, but I believe it's for the best since this transmission is much more pleasant and offers better performance.
Range and Price
The 2024 Nissan Z lineup consists of three different versions, starting with the Z Sport model, which serves as the entry-level version with a starting price of $53,834. It's more expensive than what Nissan had accustomed us to with the 370Z, but the value for money of the 2024 Z remains incredible nonetheless. Next up is the Z Performance version at $64,834. As its name suggests, it features elements that improve performance, such as 19-inch forged alloy wheels and a rear spoiler. The interior equipment is also upgraded with a premium BOSE audio system and leather seats. Finally, the Nismo version sits at the top of the range with a starting price of $78,834. In my opinion, this is the version that offers the most for your money and is also likely to retain better resale value in the long term.
Category and Competition
Despite the fact that today's automotive industry is focused on electric vehicles and SUVs, there are still several sports cars on the market, which pleases me. The Nissan Z is one of them, and it's a car that certainly deserves consideration. It does things its own way, and there is no other car like it.
Rivals: BMW 2 Series, Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang, Mazda MX-5, Subaru BRZ, Toyota GR86, Toyota Supra.
Design and Technology
Nissan certainly hit the mark with the design of the new Z, which definitely turns heads. It's the kind of car that is just as eye-catching in a dull color as in a bright one. In this regard, it offers several flamboyant shades, which is a good thing.
The Japanese manufacturer has put considerable effort into the interior in terms of both style and quality. It's a car that makes you want to drive, and it's comfortable enough to do so for hours. Every control is well-positioned, and the Z lacks nothing in terms of equipment. Its multimedia system is very enjoyable to use, and its driver assistance technologies are also very effective.
Performance
The 2024 Nissan Z offers two mechanical options, starting with a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine. This one delivers 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. This engine can be paired with either a 9-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission. In both cases, the power is sent to the rear wheels. Finally, if you are looking for a car that offers slightly sharper performance, there is the Nismo version. This version essentially uses the same engine, but the engineers have spiced it up. It delivers 420 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. Moreover, this version is only available with the 9-speed automatic transmission.
Weak Points
As for the regular version, the car is too aggressive at low RPMs and slightly lacks power when you decide to floor it. It's very rare for me to make this comment, but I prefer the automatic transmission to the manual one here. The lineup definitely lacks a convertible version.
Strong Points
It certainly turns heads as it passes by. The quality of the interior finish and the design of the dashboard are impeccable, which has not always been the case with the Z lineage. The Nismo version is breathtaking on all levels.
Signature Element
The Nissan Z is a legendary car, and the Japanese manufacturer has successfully blended retro and modern with this new iteration.
Final Word
It's a sports car that I highly recommend, especially if you're looking for something out of the ordinary. The Nissan Z is powerful and very enjoyable to drive. It also offers decent cargo space, making it an ideal car for long trips.
